Where is the spell checker on my word pad in Windows XP
home version? I really need it and the grammer also.

You must thinking of Word which is not now nor has it ever been a part of
any Windows Operating System. Word can be purchased stand alone or as a
part of the MS Office suite. The Windows WordPad applet is a minimalist
word processor that is fine for many word processing chores but it has never
had either feature that you mention.

Greetings --

WordPad is nothing more than rudimentary text editor, and does not
have any advanced word-processing features, such as spell and/or
grammar-checking.

You can add spellchecking capabilities to WordPad with an add-on like this
http://www.spellchecker.com/personal/ But if you want a full featured
wordprocessor you can either shell out for Microsoft Word Suite 2004 with
comes with your choice of 2 wordprocessors - MS Works 7 and/or MS Word 2002.
It will run you about $100 US. You can also purchase Microsoft Word as a
stand-a-lone product or as part of the Microsoft Office Suite. All have
built in spellchecking and grammar checking capabilities.

A freeware alternative which is a large download but well worth the effort
is OpenOffice http://www.openoffice.org/ It can be easily configured to
open, save and work with Microsoft files so it is a nice product.
Unfortunately it's spellchecker won't integrate into Outlook Express but you
can add this freeware Outlook Express speller to fix that problem

WordPad has neither a spell checker nor a grammar checker,
neither in Windows XP nor in other versions of Windows.

WordPad is really just a glorified text editor, not a
full-featured word processor. If you need word processing
facilities, you should acquire a real word processor. There are
several to choose from: Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect,
StarOffice (very inexpensive), and OpenOffice (free), etc.

Are you sure? It seems at one time it did??? I can't check as OE is
long gone from my computer...

Yes I'm positive. The OpenOffice Suite spellchecker will not integrate into
Outlook Express.

hmmm how does that site address the issue of the OpenOffice Suite
spellchecker not working with Outlook Express? It clearly refers to
Microsoft products but makes no mention of OpenOffice Suite.

Go to www.tech-pro.co.uk Get the file CSAPi3T1.dll and install it to fix
spellchecker. Read the problem/solution at that site.
