I recently needed to reinstall my WIN XP home edition and
now Spell Checker works only in MS Word but not in OE.
Any suggestions on how to fix? In OE on clicking on the
spell check icon the message is : An error occured while
the spelling was being checked.

Greetings John,

You might try reposting this in the Outlook Express newsgroup

Thanks very much. The instructions were excellent. A
suggestion to improve. Alert the user to reset hidden
files to default values after the fix is done. I was able
to spell check after the fix without a restart. Thanks
again.

The problem is that to share the spell checker, OE needs to work through a
dynamic link library file that may either be missing on your PC or may be in
the wrong place.

Search your hard drive for the csapi3tl.dll file. If you find it someplace
other than in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof
folder, move it there.

If you don't find it at all, you will have to extract it from your Windows
XP folder. Instructions, complete with visual aids, for extracting the file
can be found at the first Web site referenced below.

If that does not work, check out Microsoft Knowledge Base articles 224176
and Q257643. Links for both are also below. The articles detail Registry
fixes that may straighten things out.
