I am just putting the finishing touches on a clean install
of XP-Home, and noticed that there seems to be no spell
checker, and there is no "Spelling" tab in O.E.
Tools/Options. It was all there the last time I installed
from the same O.E.M. CD-ROM. Can anyone help me get my
Spell checker installed and working. TIA

Dennis

Dennis, the official spell checker for OE is Word. If you dont't have Word
installed you won't see the tab. You can do a google search of this
newsgroup and find ways around it if you don't have Word.

Hello!
Take a look at this page and see if it is the answer to
your problem:

How To: Fix spell checking in Outlook Express 6

If you are running Windows XP and are also using Microsoft
Office 97, you may find that spell checking does not work
in Outlook Express 6.0. When you try to spell check a
message, you receive the message "an error occurred whilst
the spelling was being checked". The cause of this problem
is a missing file which Outlook Express requires.

Solution

Obtain a copy of the file csapi3t1.dll and place it in the
folder "Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof".

Copies of this file may be extracted from the file
mailnews.cab in an Internet Explorer 5.0 or 5.5
distribution set, the file win98_27.cab on a Windows 98 CD,
or the file Win_10.cab on a Windows Me CD.

A copy may also be downloaded by clicking on this link.

Note: the spell checker will only work if you have a recent
version of Microsoft Office. You didn't really expect
Microsoft to support spell checkers in competitors' Office
packages, did you?

Word has more features, such as catching errors like double words, but for
pure spell checking - Autospell is pretty good, and a whole lot cheaper.

Greetings --

Outlook Express, as you've discovered, has no spell-checking
capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies upon the presence of
other Microsoft applications, such as the Office Suite, Word, or the
Works Suite. There are also some 3rd-party shareware/freeware
solutions available at any of the many shareware sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:

Manual Edit:

Go to Start/Run/EXPAND X:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ C:\CSAPI3T1.DLL (Where X is your
CD-Rom drive letter). And then copy it to: Program Files\Common
