This should prob go to an OE list, but you folks on here are so good (he
kisses up unabashedly)...

Since upgrading from WinME to WinXP - maybe it's just a coincidence - when I
run Spellchecker (Tools > Spelling) in my outgoing OE6 messages it waits a
couple seconds like it's doing something, then tells me spell check has been
completed, but it doesn't catch my errors. I reinstalled Office (incl Word)
after the upgrade, so the system knows it's there, but has forgotten how to
proofread for me. Any thouhtgts? (I just misspelled that on purpose, and
it didn't catch it. Hmmm)
TIA Harry

Hi Harry,

Spelling check is used to check the e-mail for spelling errors before the
e-mail is sent. To enable the spelling check option in Outlook Express,
follow these steps:

1. Load Outlook Express and click the Tools menu.
2. Select Options.
3. Click the Spelling tab and select the following options:

* Always check spelling before sending
* Suggest replacements for misspelled words
* Words in UPPERCASE
* Words with numbers
* The original text in a reply or forward
* Internet Addresses

4. Click Apply and click OK.
5. Close and restart Outlook Express.

With this option enabled, all e-mail messages will be checked for correct
spelling before they are sent.

Thanks,
Babuji [CCNA]

Thank you. Yes I understand it and it's set up to do it and it allegedly
does its thing, but it's suddenly not catching the errors for some reason.

Could be that your dictionary has been corrupted or changed. Reinstall the
application that enabled your spell check (usually Office/Works). It should
fix the dictionary problem.

Harry,

This utility would help: http://www.geocities.com/vampirefo/
Copies the spell-check engine and creates the correct registry entry to enable Spelling in OE.
