Speed and Outlook

I have a brand new PC - Dell XPS - when I run Outlook, disabeling all other
programs like spam filtering and the like, the performance of my PC goes to
hell. While watching Task Manager, I can see that Outlook.exe takes up to
80%, sometimes more, of the CPU when I am not doing anything, sending,
receiving, composing, nothing. While I like the sine-wave being produced via
TM, I'd like to know if I have some setting in Outlook that could be
producing the unwanted suck on my CPU.

Any I deas?

I highly doubt it - only been on-line for less than a week. Is there a
program I can run to find out if I do have malware?

It takes much less than a week for an unprotected or insufficiently
protected computer to get infected. In fact, it can take only seconds.

Anti-virus software and anti-spyware software can tell you if you have
malware. If you don't have these installed, you need to.

If you do have them installed, they must be setup correctly and
continuously kept up to date. A third party firewall can warn you when
your computer is making suspicious attempts to connect to the Internet.

You can find a good introduction to the above on Microsoft's web site:

I understand and have been very good at making aure all the requiste
firewalls, anti-spam, internet and associated security programs are up and
running before I started loading programs and even went on any web site.

Just ran the MS malware program and nothing came up. I'm still thinking
that there's some setting on Outlook that says - "check for messages" and I
have it set improperly. I could be wrong, but that's all I can come up with.

Have you ever heard or do you know of anything that would cause Outlook to
constantly suck resources?

I do appreciate the feedback - my gut tells me the solution will be
something real easy to look over.

Hi again:

I'm not aware of anything that causes Outlook to consume resources.
Sorry I can't be of more help to you.
