specified I/O operation on \Device\Harddisk0\dro was not completed before the ti

I receive this error message : "specified I/O operation
on \Device\Harddisk0\dro was not completed before the
time out period expired".

I've gotten it on 2 different games and then I just got
it while trying to install XP Service Pack 1 from Windows
Update.

What can I do to correct this?

Try going to run,type:cmd
At the curser type:CHKDSK C: /R
Agree to restart then type:EXIT
Restart computer for it to run.

Step 2

Hi - I was looking for an answer to the same question and followed your advice but at 'step 2 (of 3) in the series of steps it takes before you can enter EXIT and restart the computer is where mine stops. Any advice??
