I'm upgrading to a Sempron S764, which, by the way is a 64bit CPU - is it
not?

Anyhow - i'm just wondering if I have to purchase a special Windows XP
operating system to handle the new 64bit "stuff" - or should my XP Home be
sufficient?

Thanks-in-advance :)

AMD64 3400 with XP Home are running fine on my system.

The Sempron is not a 64 bit processor. It is based on the Athlon 64 (the
socket 754 ones anyway), but the 64 bit capability is disabled.

No, the Sempron does not support the 64 bit instruction set.

The 64 bit Athlon will run 32 bit software but to get the full advantage of
64 bit you'd need software that supports it.

64 bit Windows will be only partially 64 bit.

Isn't the 64-bit Athlon choked down to a 32-bit bus?
