Hi,
While editing a word document, I suddenly notice that
special characters like dot in place of a space and a
character like "Pi" symbol etc appear in the document.
While I look at the document in Print preview, it appears
ok.

Any suggestions on how to suppress these characters?

FWIW, the paragraph mark (pilcrow) bears no resemblance at all to pi.

Hi
Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. However, I think
I have not described properly my dificulty.

In any case, I was able to get out of it by Unchecking the
checkbox against Tools->Options->View->Formating Marks-

Thanks once again.

My fellow correspondents had identified your 'problem' correctly - the
formatting mark display is a toggle controlled with CTRL+* (CTRL+SHIFT+8) or
the pilcrow - ¶ - button on the toolbar. The access from tools > options >
view is merely a long winded route to the same place.

Well, aside from both having two legs...
