Can anyone point me to an article or resource that covers the best practices
in creating PowerPoint speaker notes? For example, how detailed should they
be? Is it best to use a simple outline or to add some paragraphs of text? (I
am making a PowerPoint to be used by others to provide training.)

Thanks,
Craig

"Best practice" is whatever works for the material being covered.

The speak notes can be a script, if the folks giving the talk know nothing
of the subject matter, although having sat through some of these, they tend
to be painful.

An outline is good, if the speaker can speak well on the material, but often
this leads to a bullet point talk, instead of a teaching session. The
speaker will often (if not coached) hit all the points briefly and move on,
without any attempt to form it into a cohesive talk.

So the answer usually lies somewhere in between. The points that must be
made can be bolded, the segways in regular print. A narrative outline is
probably your best fit for a generic presenter.

Of course this is just my 2 cents and your situation may vary drastically
from my experience.
