Hi All,
I suspected a systems file to be corrupted, so I ran SPC /RUNONCE. The
program keeps asking for XP SP2 CD-ROM. I update regularly but never
installed SP2. However WinVer tells me that I have: Version 5.1 (build
2600.xpsp2.030422-1633: Service Pack 1). SPC is useless, unless someone
knows what's going on.
Thanks for your help.

Small, but significant typing error. Read SFC (System File Check). Runs in
DOS box, with a number of command line parameters. Type SFC /? to see the
parameters. Sorry for the misspelling.

OK.

The command is SFC /scannow

You have to direct to your install CD in the CD drive. Don't worry about the
S/P revision, as some of them say SP2 (but we all know SP2 isn't out yet -
right). When system file checker (SFC) starts running, you will have to
press the appropriate key each time it wants to overwrite a file. Do this
till you get to the end. Then reboot.

You will now have to go to Window Update and download (again) all updates to
the system (some/many of them will have been over written with original,
older files)

You take it from there!
