Spaceproblem on C:\disk

Can anyone advise me?

I have installed a new harddisk (160GB) and I have installed my Windows XP
again, furthermore I had various partitions on the C:\disk.
Unfortunately I made a mistake during formatting etc. of the new disk, by
assigning only 2 GB to the C:\disc and 152 GB to the D:\disc, instead of the
other way round.

Consequences now; installing programs on the C:\disc, I run out of space on
this disk.

My question; how can I safely extend my C:\disc with a few more GB's from
the D:\disc???

C: is a partition, not a disk. It is not possible to have "various
partitions
on the C: dis":. You probably mean that you have a single disk with
two partitions on it: One for drive C:, the other for drive D:.

Your basic approach is good but the numbers are bad. You should
make drive C: 15..20 GBytes and use the rest for drive D:.

Where did you install WinXP? In drive C: or in drive D:?

You have two options:
a) Use a partition manager such as Acronis Disk Director, or
b) Manually copy both partitions to a different disk, then repartition
the new disk, then copy the lot back again.

Option a) is easy but costs money. Option b) is free but requires
skills at a Command Prompt level plus certain tools (which are
free).

It's hard to believe you got XP installed on a partition that was only 2GB.
One tool to resize the partitions is BootIt NG, from Terabyte unlimited.
They have a full featured, 30 day free trial version.

As an aside your terminology is incorrect. There is no such thing as a C
disk or a D disk. Disk drives are partitioned. They must have at least one
partition. Each partition is then labeled with a drive letter, C, D etc.
What you have is one drive with two partitions, C and D.
