SP3, Vol Lic Key Not Accepted

Updating a laptop build and included SP3 installed through Microsoft Update.
Ran sysprep, then Ghost. System will no longer accept volume license key. Saw
similar mentioned in other threads. Any help?
 
Have you check with any possible banned key list? Microsoft had a banned key
list for the previous service packs, in attempts of eliminating the "pirated
copies."
 
This happens if you perform the slipstream on Vista. You must perform the slipstream on
a computer running Windows XP.
 
I've only been able to locate two keys reported as banned, no actual lists.
My license is good, and will work on installs until I try SP3.

Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and

He mentioned that the upgrade was via WU and not a clean install from a
slipstreamed cd.
 
Install was done direct to XP machine, no Vista involved.

What Carey means is that "you must make the slipstreamed copy while in
XP. If you do it [make the slipstreamed copy] from within Vista, you
will have the problems you've reported."

HE is NOT referring to the actual INSTALLATION of the finished
slipstreamed copy of XP with SP3 [i.e. "the installation of XP using
the resulting slipstreamed copy"].

Obviously, one cannot install XP from within Vista.
