I see constant references to SP,usually complaining about some problem
or other that SP2 seems to have produced in a normal running XPHome
system. Other than security issues that SP2 has addressed there seems to
be littale else to recommend it. I use a Sygate firewall and a antivir
virus checker. The combination seems to address the problems that SP2 is
basically designed to address. Considering the constant problems that
users are complaining about, what else would recommend its use that the
present Antivir and Sygate products seem to fully address?

The vast majority of people who install SP2 have no problems, so do not post
messages, the small minority you are seeing seems a much larger group
because they are so vocal. Major Service Packs always address many more
small under-the-hood issues than the obvious features like an enhanced
firewall or popup stopper. Every XP user should install it to keep up to
date, in the unlikely event it causes insoluble problems, uninstall it.

if you *don't* install SP2, then fairly shortly you won't be able to get any
updates at all.

There were many changes in SP2. All the core modules were recompiled to
remove the buffer overflow problems for one thing. Here is a link with
more information on SP2. It does not cause problems for the majority of
users. Proper preparation is the key.

The "constant" problems you see posted here are less than 1% of all the
instances of SP2 that have been installed.

This is from my own "limited" experience. I have installed it on over 160
computers (of many different manufacturers) and have had only one minor
problem. It took me less than 5 minutes to find and solve the problem.
