I am running xp pro with sp1, my os is an upgrade from Windows Me. I have
been told not to bother with SP2 as it does'nt work with an upgraded OS. Is
this true

as beb said ..not true (I have one machine that went this route
win95>win98>win98se>XPSP1>XPSP2) and ran fine ...albeit slow on the older
machine :>

Windows XP is Windows XP regardless how it got there whether upgrade or
Clean Installation.
If Windows XP is legitimate, there should be no problem installing SP-2.

I would suggest you not get important computer advice from whoever told you
the wrong information.
