I have installed SP2 XP Pro on a home build clone without
any problems. I donwloaded the code from a developement
site. When I attemped web install of SP2 XP Home on an
IBM 26747-47U have two problems.

First. The hard disk spins for serveral minutes after
the desktop starts. The pc is nonresponsive while this
is happening.

Second. I have no LAN connectivity, with or without
running FW. It appears that TCP/IP does not load.

I have installed it twice and had to remove it both time.

Any help resolving these problems is appreciated.

For the first problem, try cleaning up your hard drive, delete tmp files,
cookies, internet cache, etc. Then defragment the hard drive.

For the second problem, SP2, installs a new MS firewall, and enables it by
default. You probably need to configure it for your network...or disable it
(for testing), to confirm it is causing your connection issue.

If the Windows firewall is disabled, it appears from my doing this that
the TCP/IP filtering for the connection is left locked down, preventing
any connection except for acquiring an IP address. TCP/IP properties,
Advanced button, Options tab, TCP/IP filtering properties, all protocols
and ports to Permit All. A working third-party firewall should be in
place when doing this.
