If I wish to install SP2 on a members computer, do I need to install SP2
before I use the SP2 Update CD or does the SP2 Update contain all that is
needed?

Thanks

Thanks

Assuming that they have Windows XP then all you need is the SP2 CD.
However, after installing from that CD visit Windows Updates. There have
been a lot of critical security updates since SP2.

Thanks Frank, but I think you may have misunderstood me, what I meant was if
the Windows Update CD is enough to use or do I need the SP2 CD, then the
Update SP2 CD and of course the updates after that?

I am trying to avoid a lot of downloading on dial up connections and that is
why I am asking about the SP2 update CD.

Hope I haven't complicated this -:))

Please don't post replies at the top of teh thread...

The sequence of an XP build is:

1. Install Windows XP.
2. Install SP1 (if necessary).
3. Install SP2.
4. Allow Windows Update to do its stuff.

Thank you, but the question is still unanswered or haven't you heard about
the update CD to the SP2 CD that Microsoft has released?

So do I need to install the Original SP2 and then the Updated SP2 or not, or
is the second SP2 sufficient? Naturally the updates since the second SP2
would have to be downloaded.

3. Do I need to install Service Pack 1 or any other updates before installing
Service Pack 2?
No, Service Pack 2 is cumulative and includes all prior Critical Updates.

There is also no need to uninstall any previous updates.

Let's back up for a second. Microsoft has not released a
post-SP2 cdrom. AFAIK, some third-party user made a cdrom
that is a compilation of all the updates since SP2 and has
made it available without Microsoft's blessings.

No need to install SP1 before SP2. SP2 includes everything before it.

It is never necessary to install SP1 before SP2. SP2 includes all the SP1
fixes.
