SP2 System Freezes

Hi,

I just installed SP2 on my workstation. After about 30min workin' the system
freezes and the Monitor gets black, like it would be in the PowerNow-Mode.
But i can't get the Display back. crtl-Alt-Del doesn't work either... :( I
hasve to press reset. Why that? Thanx!

Please repost with details about your computer hardware, where you got
SP2, and whether you installed SP2 over a beta version.

Hi Ron,

Thank you for posting!

Please check if your computer went into Standby or Hibernate as the below
steps:

1. Right click Desktop
2. Choose Properties from the context menu
3. In Screen Saver tab, click Power... button
4. In Power Schemes, to change everty item as Never. Click OK button.
5. Set Screen Saver to None.
6. Click OK button

I wonder if your monitor will go to black again after 30 minutes.

Apparently that download does link to Microsoft, so the file you got was
official. I don't know why you are having those problems. If you can
get into Safe Mode, I'd uninstall SP2 and see if everything works. Then
you might want to try installing it again *without* your USB devices
attached. It rather sounds like your video drivers are getting hosed,
although I don't know why it would work well for 30 minutes and then
freeze. Do you do something more graphically intensive at the 30-minute
time? Normally I would say your symptoms indicate hardware problems
like overheating, failing graphics card, etc. So see what happens when
you go back to SP1 and then post the results.

Didn't help :( but it seems like it would ba a problem with the TV-Card
(Driver?) It mostly happend was watching TV on my system.... :(

Hi Ron,

As you suspect that the issue is related to the driver of TV card. You may
go do the web site of the TV card manufacture to download the latest driver
and then remove the original one from Device Manager and install the latest
one. I hope that it could be helpful.
