SP2 Slowed My Boot Up Time

I installed SP2 without a hitch....BUT, I have noticed since that my boot up
time is much slower. I defragged with Diskeeper and it's still slower. I
have a brand new Sony desktop with 250 GB HD and 512 MB RAM. Until SP2 came
along, my desktop loaded in about a few seconds with all icons graphically
loaded. Now, I'd estimate it to be 45 seconds or so. Just thought I'd
report it. Wish it weren't so, but it could have been a worse problem.
Thanks. Larry

Me too and I am clean as a whistle with tons of power. The
additional at-run-time progrmas included with SP2 surely
contributed. Now I have additional Microsoft enforced
tasks running all the time. Firewalls, Security, etc. I
may just wind up dumping them. I was fine before it came
along. Its typical microsft- send us a bunch of their own
junk and interfere with actually using the computer.

My own boot time is also much slower, from a pre SP2 time of 1.25
minutes to a post SP2 time of almost four minutes. The suggestions
that Vikas has listed have all been tried with no noticable
iprovement. Microsoft's BOOTVIS utility reports that almost nothing is
happening on my system for over two minutes while "LOGON+SERVICE" and
"SHEEL" are initiallized. Does anyone have any ideas?

I think you're right. I already had Norton Security Suite, Spy Sweeper, and
the like, and essentially the SP2 program recommended that I continue using
them rather than the new Microsoft default programs. So, like you, I have to
ask myself if SP2 is worth keeping. I'm sure it secures their code in a lot
of other ways, but I don't really see what there is to gain here. All the
Microsoft Monitor's suggestions I already do religiously. It DEFINITELY is
SP2! I also learned later after my original post that my HP All In One was
not working, and had to uninstall and reboot that, which seemed to fix that
anyway. I'm holding my breath that I don't find any other glitches. Glad to
hear I wasn't alone, but sorry you have the same problem. Good luck, dude!
Thanks, Larry.
