Just installed a friends xp pro on her computer as a clean install, rebooted
to make sure all was well and then installed service pack 2. When it asks to
restart it gets just past the bios check and restarts, this happens again and
again.

It surely cant be a driver problem as it started up fine before sp2 was
installed.
Does anyone know the cause of this.

The computer is fairly old and has:
Intel Pentium III (733Mhz)
Intel(r) 82810E graphics controller
523MB RAM

Thanks.
Andrew.

It CAN be a driver issue - after all you installed SP2 without making sure
all the drivers were up to date.
My suggestion...

Boot into Safe mode - if that works - it is likely the video card driver.
Go into Device Manager (in safe mode) and remove the video card. Reboot
into normal mode (don't reboot even if it asks) and install the latest video
card driver from Intel.

See if that remedies your situation.
