whenever the PC is set to Stand By it newer recovers on
restoration of power. Just a flashing cursor.

Nothing like a well hung machine, try this:Make sure you
have enough space to hibernate.control
panel,performance,power options,hibernate tab,uncheck
box, apply,ok:then go back into it and turn it back
on.Also turn off your system restore and then turn it
back on...system icon,system restore tab,uncheck
box,apply,ok-then go back into it and turn it back on,now
try to hibernate.

Does the same thing happen with hibernation as well? One of my computers
works fine, but the other (newer) one cannot recover from standby or
hibernation. It does not hang, it just quickly reboots. This is an
incompatibility between SP2 and your hardware, what components do you use? I
have a Soltek 75-FRN2-RL motherboard but it also has problems with some
Toshiba notebooks.
