SP2 download has remained in task bar for over 3 dyas with 0 bytes
downloaded. Everything is setup correctly for automatic updates and has
always worked fine so far. Have a broadband connection so the SP2 download
should have registered a fair number of bytes if not completed a couple of
days ago. The WIndows update notification remains in the task bar though. Any
suggestions?

The link you provided claims the download is for IT professionals and network
updates etc. - not single users. This will probably work for our small office
network but will the download be a problem for a single user at home remote
PC? Will it update XP Home Edition OK as well as XP Professional? Thanks for
your previous reply.

Believe me, it works for single users. I am using XP Home and downloaded
from that link last Friday and installed on my desktop and laptop. It works.

The downloads have been staggered to stop the servers getting
hammered. You will get it sooner or later.

I thought my Update service was broken, also. I received no e-mail and knew
no other reason as to why Update was stuck at 0% until I searched this
newsgroup. I even tried to look it up on Microsoft's Knowledge base and
Windows Update website. I hate having to look at that dumb 0% for the last
4 days.

I found the problem. There is a utility on M$ download site that changes a
registry setting that blocks the download of SP2. I don't know why it was
set, but that cleared up the download problem. I'm now at 41%.
