Well, I had SP2 on my system for about a week. Everything seemed ok, so I
installed it on the other systems in my house.

Well, yesterday, I went to burn a data DVD+R. During the burn process, I
got a power error and a coaster was born. I tried again using the exact
same procedure: coaster. I then tried to make a disc image on my hard disk
then burn: coaster. I rebooted and shut down my anti-virus program:
coaster.

I finally switched to DVD+RW's. Coaster, erase, coaster, erase.

I did some scouting on the web and found that Sony is recommending that SP2
be uninstalled if using one of their burners. Uninstalled SP2, no more
burning problems.

So, I was just wondering who's cage should I be rattling: Sony, Roxio or
MS?

My system basics are as follows:

Dell XPS
P4 2.8 GHZ
XP Pro
Roxio Media Creator 7.0.430.0 ENU
Sony DRU 500A

Thanks.

Have you updated your Firmware on the DRU 500A. I have
a DRX-500 and it works fine with SP2. However, I'm still
using Easy CD Creator 6.0. Decided 7.0 had too much fluff
and the core apps (Classic, Copier) were the same as 6.0
The 2.1a firmware flash is available here: ( Scroll to bottom)

Since I installed SP2 I've been getting errors with a program called
gearsec.exe, which "experiences problems" and has to be shutdown. This
program is unknown to me but on clicking the "more info" button I founf this
was to do with CD & DVD burning. I too use Roxio 6, but have an NEC ND-1100A
writer.

When you send info to MS about this problem you get directed to a page where
you're supposed to be able to download a fix, but when you do you then get a
message saying that the download publisher is unrecognised and that you
shouldn't run the download. I took a leap of faith & ran the download but it
didn't solve the problem (couldn't remove Gear Security).

I'm currently disabling the Gear Security service in MSConfig, which has
removed the messages but I haven't tried to burn a disc yet so I may be in
for some fun ...
