After installing Service Pack 2 my Scanner has refused to work. I get
an error message something like: Twain Server not Found.

I removed the Scanner and tried it on another computer and it works.

I uninstalled SP2 and uninstalled the drivers for the Scanner and
then re-installed the Scanner using the method prescribed by its
manual. I am using drivers suitable for XP downloaded from the
manufacturer.

It still gives the same error message. Any helpful suggestions? I
have read all the Support messages I could find from Microsoft but did
not find the help I need there.

The Scanner is a CanoScan FB620p.

Tom;
Make sure you have the latest Windows XP drivers.
Verify from Canon the latest drivers are compatible with SP-2.

I suggest removing the USB HUB devices to refresh those drivers.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the HUB device(s), Action
menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers again
automatically.

one of the things that the sp2 update does is fuss w/ all shortcuts in the
STARTUP folder, causing some to fail. Specifically, it prunes off any
parameters to the startup item and resets the "start in" folder setting.

I my case this caused the scanner's "monitor" process to not load
correctly, rendering all the buttons on the scanner inert. I had to
deinstall and then reinstall the scanner drivers to get it to remake the
proper startup item, then it worked again. PITA!

Sorry, I should have included that this is an LPT connected scanner.
