I am attempting to install Service Pack 2 and the installation keeps
freezing at "inspecting current configuration." Although it says that
it does, the installation doesn't begin to inspect anything. I tried
setting the permissions for all of the registries but it didn't help.
Can anyone help?

Have you disabled antivirus software, shut down all running programs, and
ensured a clean system by running antispyware scans prior to attempting to
update?

Don't forget the windowsupdate group for this sort of problem - there have
been plenty of posts over the last three months or more
