SP2 installation errors

On or approximately 4/16/06, I started receiving errors when Windows was
attempting its automatic updates downloads. (0x643). I then purchased the
SP2 cd and now I'm receiving the message that SP2 cannot continue download
because my product number is not valid. My Windows XP professional is
working fine and it was actually reinstalled by a technician used the CD he
had in his possession. What could be the problem. This installation was
done about 1 1/2 years ago and the errors started appearing in April of this
year. Why all of a sudden, it is not acknowledging the product code? Can
anyone help.

When the "technician" did the reinstall did he use your licensed
product key with his CD?

If you are not certain then download Magic Jelly Bean key finder:
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml and compare the
product key it reports to the one for your Windows XP license.

Did your original Windows XP come preinstalled on the computer when
you purchased it? If so then open Control Panel - System - General
and look at the 20 character Product I.D. code that is shown on the
last line of the "Licensed to" section. If your Windows XP is an OEM
version, such as one that came preinstalled on a new computer, then
the second segment of the product i.d. will read OEM. If it is
numeric then the installed Windows is either a retail or volume
licensed version and not an OEM version.

Once we have sorted out what version of Windows XP is actually
installed and what version your license is for then we can work
towards resolving this problem.

Good luck
