Hi,

I was given a copy of SP2 on CD which was in the .ISO format.

I have extracted all the files into my c:/ XP SP2 folder.

My question is : Which is the file to begin the installation of SP2?

Please don't say go to the Windows Update site, as this is not an
option for various reasons.

Would appreciate any pointers toward the installer.

Thanks,

Stuart

In krayten had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Either burn the ISO to disk or you should find setup.exe or setup.msi (it's
been a while) but it will be one of those two and it will be in the
top-level folder that you extracted it to. Anyhow, if you take that CD, copy
it to your hard drive, and then burn it as an image file with your burner
then you should be all set - it will even auto-run for you.

If its in ISO, why didnt you just burn it to CD and then AUTORUN it? If you
want the fancy screen double click AUTORUN if not XPSP2, and for future
reference, buy your software its only 100 beans...

Hmm, I cant see it, I have searched for *setup* and *autplay*,
*autrun*, *install* and all these things but none of them spawn the
familiar SP2 installation dialogs.

I am beginning to think that this (extracted disk image ) is a bit of a
weird hybrid that someone has concocted.

Does any of the below make any sense to anyone? And if so which file
would spawn the SP2 install?

I have in the extracted folder:-

-SP2
-i386
+asms
compdata
drw
+ic
images
+ip
lang
new
+root
setuptxt
system32
update
+win9xmig
win9xupg
winntupg

Many thanks

Sorry Michael, but you are way off here. This is a corporate
environment I am in with fully licensed and paid for software.
So please spare me your clumsy assumptions.

This issue I have is that I wish to install SP2 onto a number of
laptops but the version of SP2 that I have been given to install
from our IT dep merely Xcopies itself onto the HD of the machine
then stops dead, creating the directory structure that I describe in
another post. I'm just asking if anyone knows which is the file
to kick of the SP2 install, should anyone recognise the folder
structure
that I am quoting.

Thanks anyway,

Krayten

On the CD that I order from Microsoft, the file to begin the installation of
SP2 is "x:\XPSP2.EXE". Where 'x' is your CD/DVD drive letter. The file size
is 272,391 KB.
