Have tried a few times to install SP2 on my XPPro machinee. It gets to the
point of preparing for install, backing up key files and then goes to create
a restore point and it just sits there for hours doing nothing (sys
performance wobbles around the 20% mark).

1) Machine working relatively OK before - though over last month it has not
been shutting down properly
2) Have ZoneAlarm and McAfee installed (my second machine running XP Home
and these software items installed first time).
3) I went back into System Restore to try putting the machine back to an
earlier restore point (say a month ago) - it went through the motions but
returned back to 'cannot restore' and no changes
4) I created a restore point manually OK.

HELP !! I want to avoid reinstalling XP if I can help it !
