sp2 full stop blue screen

After installing sp2 I've had a couple of issues:

1. When right-clicking on orphaned(?) shortcuts in explorer (in order to
delete them)
an application error would occur in explorer.exe (a memory could not be
written one), recoverable on explorer re-starting. I have no further details
as since downloading and running filemon from sysinternals.com to investigate
wha was happening, the problem has ceased.

2. When running a game (battlefield 1942 is the only one I've tried so far)
a big bad full stop occurs:
**STOP 0x0000008e (0xc0000005,0x82eede1b,0xf2b8399c,0x00000000)

No further details are given but a full memory dump occurs.

I've obtained and re-installed the latest nVidia GForce drivers and
VIA4in1(Hyperion) with no effect.

Any thoughts?

I can not right click any folders and get a context menu...the system freezes
and the the desktop refreshes itself and unloads icons running in the tray by
the clock. If I press ALT/Cnrl/Del is se the folder I tries to right click
listed as not responding...

May not be that relevant but I thought I'd post the extra detail.

I ran the direct draw and direct 3d tests from DXDiag
I also ran the direct sound and music tests
(DX9.0c)

None of the tests caused the error so I'm not sure if it's to do with video
card activation or not.

The error is not confined to one game, C&C Generals caused exactly the same
thing.

System spec:

AMD Athlon 1300
512MB (DDR266)
1x60GB HDD (running the XPsp2)
1x40GB HDD (data storage)
GeForce FX5200 128BM using DVI output (IRQ 11, BIOS 4.34.20.18, Driver
v6.14.10.6177)

If you need any more detail please ask.

I fixed my computer... I removed Dr. DivX and now all is fine with the right
click problem... DivX folks know about the problem and are working on a
fix....

Serious Sam 2nd encounter works on my XP Pro Computer with SP2 only after I
added the 1.05 to 1.07 patch...once the patch was applied the game worked
fine... my video cad is an ATI X800 Pro...
Seroius Sam the 1st encounter works fine from CD but will not work if I
apply the patch...

Cheers for the reply.
In tat case, it looks like it's probably a conflict with some aspect of the
nvidia driver interacting with changes brought in with SP2, but who knows?
(I have already got the SSam2nd encounter patch to 1.07)

Are you using CD Emulation software? Try removing it or finding a new version.

I also had the same problem with Battlefield 1942 and Raven Shield as well.
They would not work under SP2 at all. If SP2 was removed however, they
worked fine.

I formatted my system and reinstalled XP (patching it to SP2) and
Battlefield 1942 worked fine until I installed Daemon Tools (3.33). This
would cause the same BSOD again on my brand new windows installation. I
restored the system to before Daemon and tried BF1942 again and experienced
zero problems.

Updating to Daemon 3.47 Seems to solve the problem.
I think it might have something to do with the 'stealth' drivers that Daemon
loads to enable the virtual drives.

I am using Alcohol52% CD emulation.

Sounds like it might be the same problem. so i'll try a removing it.

Thanks, this is the most similar post I've seen on the boards.
