no problems before sp2, now computer will freeze up, nothing moves or will
work, when left alone for an extended period of time (over an hour) and
sometimes will freeze when doing mundane things like surfing the Net. Will
not freeze if put in standby mode. No problem turning off computer and
starts in normal mode when turned back on with no error codes. Any ideas?

Tried your suggestion. Also have looked in 'event viewer' and find nothing
there to indicate any problem.

My system still freezes up causing me to perform a 'hard boot'. Simply
cannot find a solution. My system has frozen 4 times in the last 24 hours!!

I use Norton Firewall and AV. I do not use the Windows Firewall.

Any other suggestions?

The freeze implies a driver gone bad, or broken hardware. I would try
pulling out what I could, to bare bones, and work up till error.

Have same problem. Have tried power settings, heat related problems(fans
running and vents cleared, cpu clean and fan running) looked at power supply
voltages, replaced memory(thinking had bad ram) nothing fixes it. It just
showed up after sp2 install. Have uninstalled non essential hardware. This
computer is used for internet only. Have scanned for virus and spyware and
found none.
Thanks for any help

There are still a lot of potential driver problems and there is always a
potential need for a BIOS update.

I would remove what I could from device manager, and restart to refresh what
I could. (and check for a BIOS update)

The freeze tells you its something in hardware.
