SP2 Disaster.

ServicePack 2 has been a disaster on my computer. The
first time I installed it, the video display drivers (ATI
Radeon 9600) failed and even though I uninstalled sp-2 in
safe mode, the drivers never came back. I had to go into
vga mode to reinstall my drivers. I tried a second time
to install sp-2 and the computer would get into a
continous reboot mode. Nothing worked, not safe mode not
vga mode. I finally had to repair my XP installation with
the origional XP disk. After 24 hours, I am back where I
began, SP-1 and all other security upgrades except for sp-
2. I now have intermittent "Explorer has encountered an
error and has to close, sorry ...." when I access the
control panel. Can any of the MVP's help?

See the following web site for a checklist to follow before installing
Service Pack 2:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm

As for your explorer errors, right-click on My Computer and select
Manage.
Expand the Event Viewer category (click on the +) and browse through
each of the 3 subcategories looking for red-flagged error records
whose date and time corresponds to your explorer errors.

Double click on an error record to see the details of that error.
Post that information back here if you need additional advice or
assistance with it.

Good luck

Thanks for your help.

Glad you were able to solve the problem.

Google toolbar is not often the cause of problems, but I will keep
this incident in mind for future instances of similar problems.

Good luck
