I downloaded SP2 onto my computer and I could not reboot, not from F1 or from
system restore F8, my computer was shutting down and restarting back and
forth, when I spoke to a compaq rep they told me I needed to copy my boot
files to a disk so I could reboot, I had to use my restore disk and go back
to manufacture setup when this happened, I am leary of reinstalling Sp2
because I lost alot of pictures and programs when I did it the first time,
dose anyone have any suggestions how I can copy my reboot file so I can start
my computer if this happens again, I have windowsXP with SP1, I have removed
all the things I dont need, with the exception of my music download
program(which I pay for).

If you restored back to original, now is the best time to install a
Service Pack since there is little installed to possibly cause
problems with SP-2.
follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm

You should always have current back ups of all important data, not
just while performing a Service Pack Installation.

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm.

The problem is that when I restored my computer back to original I also put
back all the other programs I lost, the other problem is that when I went to
the F8 screen and made the choice to restore back to an earlier time my
computer would shut down, and I could not restore it back to an earlier time,
how do I make a copy of the boot files ? and would this help me if this
happened again, to be able to reboot?

You could do that (see http://www.michna.com/kb/WxMove.htm for
details on boot diskettes), but it would not solve your problem.

Why did you not respond to my message, Message-ID:
<[email protected]>? It contains the
information you need.

I did not get your message only the post and it dose not help because I
already tried to restore from F8 and it kept shutting down and not letting me
into the restore screen.
