How do I check to see what Build Version my SP2 is? I am told Microsofts

Go into Windows Explorer. Then select Help - About.

You should see:

Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service Pack 2).

2158 (21:58 Pacific time/9:58 pm) is the build time, not the build number.
2180 is the RTM build number.

2158 is not the build number, it's the time it was built. The build for SP2
is 2180 but they are both one and the same.

The first one is the built time and later one is the build version.

A misunderstanding. It is build 2180, but what you see in say Winver is
a time stamp - 040803-2158 is build started at 21:58 on 3 August 2004

You will see the build number if you take Properties of a component -
say kernel32.dll - and look on the version page: 5.1.2600.2180

Softpedia does NOT have a "release" of SP2. SP2 was "released" by
Microsoft. Softpedia links to Microsoft's download site, where
Microsoft's (legal) "release" can be downloaded. Any "release" of
Service Pack 2 from any site other than Microsoft's is not authorized
by Microsoft. At present, as far as I know, Microsoft has not
authorized any websites, other than its own, as sources for
downloading SP2.
