I have the MS message that SP2 is available for auto
update and want to wait a while to install it to see if
others notice problems and then decide. Will this message
stay there forever ? I sometimes have problems with web
sites, including MS, recognizing that I have ME version 6
(I have a new computer and AOL), and am not totally free
to just go into the Window XP's web site at a later date
to download as they may tell may that "I need to have
Explore 6 or higher", which I do, but they do not see.

Thanks, Don

If you have ME why are considering the upgrade? You
should check the tech pages but I don't think SP2 will do
anything for your running ME and I'm not sure you can
download selectively (security changes are definately
worth having on any platform) You should consider getting
rid of ME anyway, it is Microsoft's worst OS. Going back
to 98SE or 2000 is preferable to ME. If you can afford
it, back up your data and take the plunge with XP. It's
got a few quirks but it's definately better.

Regarding your bugs question, there are already a few bugs
with the release but most major programs, (especially
Microsoft licensed programs) are unaffected. IBM has
instructed its employees NOT to download the patch because
they have a lot of specialized programs that will probably
get hung up by the patch. If you are running some basic
over the counter programs, you shouldn't have any
problems.

Good Luck
