I have Auto Update turned on and it has downloaded the
SP2 update. However, I've seen sooooo many posts about
major problems after installing SP2. How can I remove the
SP2 update download but continue to receive other
updates ? I have not installed SP2 and want to order a
CD to install it at a later date.....hopefully when many
of these problems have been fixed. I'm currently running
Norton's Firewall and Antivirus plus I have Lavasoft
AdWare and Spybot Search and Destroy installed.
thanks for your advice.

The purpose of a help newsgroup is to help folks
solve problems. You are not going to find too many
people posting to a help newsgroup that don't have
problems. The number of successful SP2 installations
far outweigh those that did not have success or experienced
a minor issue.

SP2 is a solid, secure product and is not going to change,
so I suggest you go ahead and install SP2 since it was already
downloaded and awaiting installation. Some basic preparation
will help insure the successful installation of SP2.

If you still wish to uninstall the SP2 files downloaded via Windows
Update, go to Start > Run and type: %systemroot%/temp , and hit
enter, then delete the contents of the C:\WINDOWS/temp folder.

Hi

Clean out the Download folder (WU5's temporary download folder)
located here:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

To avoid that Automatic Updates tries to install SP2 at all (up to
12. April 2005):

Toolkit to Temporarily Block Delivery of Windows XP SP2 to a PC
Through Automatic Updates and Windows Update

Run the XPSP2BlockerTools.exe in the link above. It will extract
several files to the folder you specify.

Then run XPSP2Blocker.exe to activate the blockage (it will create
the registry value described in the link above).

Hi

Actually, when using WU/AU, SP2 will be downloaded to a subfolder
located here:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)
