I just upgraged a bunch (72) of computers with a fresh build of Windows XP
Pro SP2 on Intel 815EEA (with ATI Rage 128 video cards) and 815EEA2
motherboards but all 72 computers constantly crash with a blue screen of
death and the stop 50 error in mrxdav.sys. The computers are running Norton
9.0 Corporate and have 20gb and 40gb hard drives with 256mb ram and all
computers do it but with nothing that seems to specifically trigger the crash
but all crash and crash often so that students can not use them! I find
nothing in the knowledge base on online that might help solve the problem.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to remedy this as user are about
ready to linch me!

Thank you.

I have the same problem. After extensive lookups and (of course) no help from
Microsoft, I've found the problem to be related to knowledge base article #
832143. The short of it states I need the file,
"Windowsxp-kb832143-x86-enu.exe," but apparently, unless I'm willing to pay
$35.00 with my credit card to Microsoft, I can't get the file.

Strange how the problem is with the O/S and they won't even give me the
patch to correct the problem without giving them even more money.

I'm having the same problem. I have a PC which gets this mysterious
mrxdav.sys-caused bluescreen. I can't believe that Microsoft doesn't
have a freely available patch for this! That burns me up!

I've completely reformatted and re-installed Windows XP with the same
results. It always seems to happen when I try to open a file; not
necesarily even a network file. This computer in particular always has
about 6 mapped drives on startup though, so there's always network
drives that Windows XP has to parse when opening an explorer window.

Can't wait to see what kind of junk Vista is going to be!

The computer can go three days with heavy Web Design and Photoshop use.
Then one day (like today), it crashes three times in a row. I start it
up, start working, it crashes...Repeat.

Freaking CRAZY!!!!!

I also had a STOP 0x50 in MRXDAV.sys on a machine with XPPRO SP2 and I
contacted M$ and acquired the hotfix (kb832143) and password and when I
tried to install it, it claimed that my Service Pack was newer than the
hotfix and would not install. My guess is you have some spyware or a
virus that is causing the Blue Screen.

Good Luck.

It turns out that my NIC was bad. It was a cheapo no-name card, and as
soon as I swapped it out, the mrxdav.sys error was no more.

Hope this helps someone, 'cause it sure stumped the crap out of me for
a LONG time!
