I posted this question in a Symantec newgroup also, but I am wondering if
this could be an XP issue. Symantec says this should be able to run.

I am running Win XP SP2 and NIS 2005. It has worked well on a daily basis
but I wanted to run it in Safe Mode and got the following message:

Symantec Integrator has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.

Is there something I need to configure in either XP or NIS in order to do a
scan in
Safe Mode?

Thanks for your help.

Integrator, as all of Symantecs "Control shells, will only
run in Hires monitor mode. A safe mode runs in lowres, or
low color depth, which normally will not let the
applications in NIS/NAV run (particularly the shells).

Hmm.. Thanks. That's a really lousy feature in my opinion. Is there a
logical reason for it? I ended up running a scan in safe mode at the Trend
Micro site, but I sure would have liked to use my own stuff!

You can run Norton Antivirus 2005 Scans in safe mode. but not the
Integrator. Use your Start Menu. I know I can.

I tried to do that...used the start menu and selected Antivirus. Is there
another way?

That is how I do it. There is usually a message saying something like "You
can only perform scans in safe mode". Have you looked at Symantec Support?
Or your manual?
