Welcome to the world of "You don't have any other option." Microsoft
controls the support process, and if they decide that SP2 is required, then
you must find SP1 from a 3rd party site. Good luck finding one that
Microsoft hasn't legally forced to remove SP1. IE 5 is the same way for me.
I have an old 200Mhz Compaq that came with Win95. When I use the restore
disk on it, the browser can't even view the Windows Update site. Microsft
has stopped supporting Win95, so IE6 won't even install. My only other
option is to use a WinME upgrade disk (bypassing the upgrade of Win98 by
having the Win98 disk handy).

The kicker is this: I've put enough memory in the old sucker to run WinXP
just fine. I had XP running on it for a short time while my main computer
was waiting on a replacement mainboard. I just don't have the cash to buy a
separate XP license! Oh well, that's life.
