I recently tried to reinstall sp1 after a system crash. I
had it before - no problems.

It would not install so I blew it off.

Now, I find the sp1 express_5... in WU Temp. under
program files.... Waiting for me to install it.???...

After reading through the community, I'm a little leary of
having it at all.

What exactly is the difference in sp1, sp1 express, sp1a
etc. etc. etc. and how important are any of them to my xp
system???

SP1 - the first full install service pack realease.
SP1 express - for those who stay updated regularly, a smaller sp1 cause you
have most of it already.
SP1a - same as sp1 except java was taken out as required by suns cry baby
law suit win over ms.

BTW - SP1 is vital to the correct function and security of your computer. It
should be installed.

Hi,

Difference between sp1 and sp1a is the java machine (ms no longer can
distribute it, so it was removed from sp1, hence we have sp1a). The express
file is the shortened version that the autoupdate feature downloads, it
would not download the entire 135+MB file used for the network installation.
