I bought XP Home edition a couple of years ago as OEM
with hardware. I can't remember where I bought it and
when I went onto the microsoft site to ask a question it
wouldn't let me saying I needed to contact the OEM
supplier. Thats a little unfair as I bought the software,
it would be nice to get some support of the multi billion
pound company.
My question to them was to be, I am about to do a format
and clean install, is there anyway before I do so that I
can save all the Updates and service packs etc as to save
me hours on end of downloading time.

Thanks Simon

The installed updates are not in a reusable form.
See #1 on this link for a few options:

As for support...you get what you pay for.
You chose to save money and buy the less expensive OEM.
No support is one of the many reasons you paid less for the OEM.
All support, if any, comes from the seller based on the agreement you
have with the seller, usually no support.

A clearer perspective on the situation might be obtained if you
considered that what you actually purchased was "(insert supplier
name) Windows licensed from Microsoft"

See http://onlinehelp.bc.ca/oem_software.htm for a more detailed
explanation of OEM software.

Good luck

*SIGH* another moron who can't read a licence agreement and then throws his
toys out of his cot when he discovers MS won't help him! *READ* the EULA.
No, as you probably don't have the necessary mental capability to find it,
I'll save you the head-scratching...

"PRODUCT SUPPORT. SOFTWARE support for the
SOFTWARE is not provided by MS, Microsoft Corporation, or
their affiliates or subsidiaries. For product support,
please refer to Manufacturer's support number provided in
the documentation for the HARDWARE. Should you have any
questions concerning this EULA, or if you desire to
contact Manufacturer for any other reason, please refer to
the address provided in the documentation for the HARDWARE."

Moron eh, I asked a civil question, and as for doubting
my mental capacity, you are very presumptious.
Get off your high horse and offer help, like everyone
else who responded, the world certainly doesn't need more
people like you, and your negative attitude.
