I am running windows XP home edition.

I want to turn off the sounds when windows starts up and ends.

I go to the control panel click on sounds go to windows exit item but can't
figure out how to shut it off.

What needs to be done?

One way might be to record a "blank" sound and use that!

You set the 'Start Windows'., 'Exit Windows',.... to 'none' in the dropdown
box

Set the sound to "None" which is the first item in the drop-down list.
Apply/OK out.
