I have recently purchased a new LCD monitor (hp pavilion
f1703)changed settings from 800x600 pixels to 1280x1024,
the sound becomes distored when on the net, change back
and everything is fine

You may be over-stressing your video adapter, and that is causing the processor
to work harder. When using an LCD , always use the default resolution.
