The first problem is that I purchased a Gateway desktop with an Intel integrated motherboard (no seperate sound card). Gateway upgraded this system from the original Win98 to WinXP last September. The sound was working fine until about 3 weeks ago. After "discussing" this sound problem with Gateway, I was told that they made an error and our system is not compatible with XP. However, it was working for the last 7 months. We get the message that the sound driver is corrupted or missing. Any ideas on how we can patch this to get sound back? Patching with Win2000 didn't seem to work when tried by the Gateway techs but I read that it should at least get minimal quality sound. And Microsoft doesn't provide sound drivers for downloading.

Maybe what they meant was your sound drivers are not compatable with XP
If you can find out the maker of the sound chip you should be able to go to
their website and download XP drivers
