Sound problems on my laptop

Hi all. I have a sony fs 215b. Recently it started making a weird sound
a few seconds into songs and then the same happened with DVDs. it seems
to pause every few seconds then jump on to where it should be. Its
really starting to bug me....Can anybody help with this?
 
Update the sound card driver.Visit manufacturer's website to download
and install the latest update.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Unfortunatly I have already tried that to
no avail. The vaio startup sound seems unaffected so I'm presuming now
that it is Windows related??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
