I have a Gateway Select 900 we bought back in 1999. It came with a Creative SoundBlaster Live Value soundcard. I recently updated to Windows XP Professional. Now the sound does not come through the speakers. I can hear the sound through headphones, but when I plug my speakers into the same jack, they do not play the sound. I've tested the wires and they are working. I've downloaded all updated drivers, but nothing seems to work. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have Boston Acoustics speakers. I don't know if that makes a difference. They're the powered subwoofer/satellite models.

He says he already got the most recent drivers. Open the computer and
look inside. Check to be sure the little cable running from the cd to
the motherboard hasn't come loose.

Hi - I answered your previous post and suggested you open the case and
be sure the cable running from the cd-rom to the motherboard is still
connected. I don't think the brand of speakers makes any difference,
but it would be easy to borrow a cheap pair of speakers and plug them
into your sound card. If they work and the Boston ones don't, then you
know your speakers are toast. Another quick thought, since you mention
headphones. On my son's machine (Win98), when he wants to switch from
his headphones/microphone headset to hearing sound out of the regular
speakers, he needs to run the Multimedia Speaker Configuration applet
and change from Speakers to Headset. Perhaps you had to do that, too
and neglected to change back to speakers?

Cheers,

Malke
