My sound on my computer is not working and I have tried a few things and none have worked. Just about all of my games don't work because it gives you an error about DirectX, buffering and such. Even the games that do work have no sound. Itunes and Windows Media player don't have sound. Do you need my dxdiag? If you do please say so. I need this to be fixed ASAP! Thank you!

Sounds like (Sorry for the pun) you have tried several things, but, how
about this; Control Panel, Sounds Speech and Audio Devices, Sounds and Audio
devices, Audio tab, check Sound playback, and make sure dropdown has correct
item listed; also, in that tab, under Sound playback, click "Advanced", and
make sure your speaker selection is correct for your installed speakers; and
under "Volume" tab, Device Volume, Advanced, make sure "Mute" is not
checked. I am sorry, I know all this is simple stuff, but I just helped
someone the other day with the same symptoms, and this is where I found the
problem. Good Luck.

Did your sound ever work? Do you have a sound card, or integrated sound?
Are your drivers up to date? If your sound used to work, what have you done
on your computer between now, and when it did? Try "Rolling Back Driver" in
Device Mgr. All these things are worth looking into. Keep us posted.

Most of those things are grayed out. The advanced buttons are grayed out
and you can't click 'em. And the volume controls are all grayed out... When
I went to my Dxdiag it played a sound to test the speakers or somethnig, so
I know the speakers are plugged in right. Also, on the sound playback drop
down list there are no other options then Modem #0 line playback and same as
the other drop down list on that. Any ideas?

Yeah my sound worked then all the sudden it pooped out. Is there anyway to uninstall all the sound junk then re-install it?

Make sure "Windows Audio" service is running and set to automatic (and
NOT disabled).

You can reach it through:
Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services

It solved me the same problem with my AC97 card.

HTH,

Michael.
