I can't get music to work on a presentation on a xp laptop. The same
presentaion works fine on other machines. Do I have some setting wrong. I
tried repairing powerpoint but still the same result

Discovery tree to obtain additional information:

Is there a sound card installed?
Is the computer's volume turned up?
Is the sound input or system muted?
Does the sound in this presentation play on other systems?
Was the link to the sound broken when moved?
How long is the link to the sound (in characters)?
Do other sounds play on this computer?
Is the sound activated?
Are the contacts in the headphone jack corroded?
Is something else playing (even if it is playing silence)?

Post back, we can help track this down with you.

.whoever edited this message doesnt have a clue....i
dont have a lap top....do not have other machines.....did
not try to repair powerpoint!!!!! i get the song to play
but only on one slide...need a continuas loop of music,
but when the slide changes, the song stops....help

Very sorry this did not answer your question. I can only go by what
information is provided by the NG poster.

Seeing as how the poster said, "on a xp laptop" -- I assumed they were using
a laptop. Seeing as how they said, "works fine on other machines" -- I
assumed there were other machines. And seeing as how they said, "I tried
repairing powerpoint " -- I assumed they tried to repair PowerPoint. My
questions were intended to get additional information that would better
define the problem they are having so I could make a recommendation for a
solution.

Perhaps your suggestion of cluelessness was misapplied? Or perhaps your
reply was intended for a different message?

For the answer to the problem that you stated in the second post, look at
www.pptfaq.com and search for "Play sounds across multiple slides ". This
will continue a single song across multiple slides. You can use a sound
editing program to add multiple iterations of the song to a single sound
file.
