IDEAS WOMAN

For months I have not had sound, one day it just stopped. I posted here got all types of
solutions and nothing worked.

Today came across a website with a midi file and I could hear it - nearly hit the roof in
shock!

So, can someone help me to obviously find a setting in Windows I must be missing to get my
sound back. I am a multimedia developer and need it and ironically I was taking my
computer to my technician tomorrow to see what he could do so maybe now I do not have to
go!

Thanks

Hi,

I have following suggestions:

Step 1: Download and install the latest compatible driver
=============
Please contact the device manufacturer to obtain the latest compatible
drivers for Windows XP.
1. Please remove all problematic audio devices in Device Manager.
2. Please first install the motherboard driver and restart the computer and
install the latest driver for audio devices.

Step 2:
=============
If the problem started happening recently, I suggest you perform a System
Restore to revert back to the initial status or other correct state.

Note: If you have some important documents or files which were created
after the restore point, please copy them to My Document. This is a
precaution to take even if you return to the initial status, files will
still remain in My Documents.

To restore your system to a previous state, we can use the following steps:

1. Before you start, please close all open files and close all open
programs.
2. Click "Start"; Click "Programs or All Programs"; Click "Accessories";
Click "System Tools"; Click "System Restore". The System Restore user
interface should appear.
3. Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and click "Next".
4. From the restore points available, select an appropriate restore point
when your system was working correctly and click "Next".
5. Click "Next" again. The restore process will run and your system will
restart automatically.
6. After restarting, check whether your system functions correctly now. If
not, you can undo your last restoration or select another restore point in
System Restore user interface.

XP

Step 3: Check Windows Audio service
=============
Please check the Windows Audio service to see if it is running.
1. Click Start\Run and type services.msc to open Services window.
2. Please check the Windows Audio service in the right pane. If it does not
start, please double-click the service to set the Startup type to Automatic
and start the service.

Step 4: Remove all audio software
=============
Remove all audio software from Control Panel\Add/Remove Programs, such as
MP3 to Wave Decoder. Then, restart the computer and test sound again.

Step 5: Remove corrupted registry keys
==============
WARNING : If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using
Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Locate and then remove the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ac97intc
3. Locate and then remove the following registry value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}\LowerFilter
4. Locate and then remove the following registry value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}\UpperFilter

In addition, based on my research, all sound schemes are stored in the
following registry locations:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\.Default
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\.Default

If the registry keys have been corrupted, you may export it from a normal
Windows XP machine and import to the problematic machine to see if it can
help. For more information, you may refer to:

Windows Server 2003

Hope this helps.

A conflict after installing DVD copying software. Realtek software took over from the
Soundblaster software and so all Soundblaster sound options were set to mute. I deleted
Realtek and then sound again!
