Windows XP professional. Old Creative Labs 16 sound card that
has served me well for years. The sound card has been working
well with XP for 18 months or so but for no apparent reason, I have
lost sound. The speaker icon wont show, wav files will not play, even
though device manager insists that the sound card is working properly
and that all drivers are installed. The weird thing is, the sound will play
when I play mpg files or avi files,.but, there is no sound when I play
DVD's.
When I insert a removable hard drive with Millennium installed,
the sound card is working fine, so obviously the hardware is ok.
So, what can be causing this in XP? Some sort of audio codec
or something? I've tried changing irq settings and moving the
card to a different slot, reinstalling the drivers, deleting the card
altogether out of device manager etc..etc...
Any suggestions appreciated.
