Just recently my sound has stopped working. I will play a
sound in any program and it just sounds a little fuzzy as
if nothing is playing. I have checked in the advanced
section and all of my mute boxes are unchecked. I have
tried a bunch of other little things but nothing seems to
work. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

All I can say is that I have the same problem here. But
all can I think of is that there's something wrong with
my sound card(onboard sound card) and All I can think of
is purchasing a brand new sound card not stuck onto my
motherboard though. Because I think all onboard sound
cards are cheap. So im deciding to get a 69.99 sound card
that works great from circiut city. YOu acan too, if you
have the same probalem that is.

Do you have the CPU overclocked? On my motherboard if the CPU is
overclocked 8% the sound still works, but at 10% it acts like yours does.

How do I fix that then? Thanks for the quick response!

I highly doubt this is the issue since you asked how to fix
overclocking. Chicken before the egg syndrome there.

Anyways, I am willing to take a guess at a couple of options. The first
option is try reinstalling the sound card drivers. To find out what
sound card you have, I would use Everest Home from www.lavalys.com . It
will even provide a link for you to the latest drivers.

Second, the jack or plug in could be going bad. It is possible that the
contacts have come loose or it is just deteriorated. A new sound card
may fix this. If you keep your eyes open, you can usually pick up a
decent 5.1 surround sound card for under $20. I highly recommend the
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 which can be had for Free after Rebate up to
around $30, all depending on what deal is available at the time.

I am hoping you got the Audigy 2 ZS for that price. That seems quite
high for a sound card considering that is just a little less than what I
paid for my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum! Anyways, integrated audio has
improved, but the lower end motherboards usually choose the least
expensive onboard audio they can find. Only high end boards (like ASUS,
ABIT, MSI higher end motherboards) have the good onboard audio chips.

I usually recommend a PCI sound card instead of integrated audio if the
money is available and the audio is actually used for more than the
Windows starting and Windows shutting down music :)

I am having the same problem, except that my computer is new and was working
fine until a couple of days ago. I am using a laptop with built in speakers.
I tried doing a system restore and that did not work either.
