I have Windows XP and Office pro 2002.
I had a pp presentation with a sound file. After viewing it many times, it
all of a sudden stopped playing the sound. The presentation is not affected.
I can add an existing sound file from my music library and it will play but
it will not play any new files that I add to the library. I copied the
presentation to a different computer and it played perfectly for a while and
then it duplicated the exact problem that I experienced on my other computer.
The only way I could get the sound file to play was to have it play directly
from the CD. The sound files will play on Media player.I reloaded Office and
dowloaded Media Player 10. Neither of them corrected my problem. The
simplier the language the better as I am not that well versed in computer
stuff. thank you so much.

Where did the sound file come from?
What type of sound file is it (MP3, WAV, WMA)?
Did you rip it from a CD?
What have you installed on your system since it last worked for you?
Did you install Real Player or another media player?

I believe it was a WMA file. Yes we ripped it from a cd to the media player
library and from there we added it to the pp. We did not add any additional
players or anything. It just stopped playing on both computers. I might
also mention that any new presentations will pay pre-crash audio files but
not any post crash audio files.
Thank you so much.

If you updated Windows Media Player from Ver 9 to 10 or you installed Service
Pack 2 for Windows XP, I'm speculating that you can no longer play your WMAs
because they are now protected by Digital Rights Management (DMA). Please go to
My Computer and click on Help > About Windows. Does it say that the Build
includes Service Pack 2? Open Windows Media Player and go to Help > About.
Does it say Version 10?

The home computer had media player 9 and the laptop had media player 10. No
service packs have been downloaded. The problem was identical on both
computers. Thanks Steve

In Windows Media Player, under Tools > Options > Copy Music, do you have "Copy
protect music" checked?

In the long run, I think I would recommend that you try converting them to MP3s.
You should be able to use Google and search for "WMA to MP3" to find a free
trial version of a tool to do this.
